The FORM Modular Leg Length Cleat is compatible with all 3-hole road cleats. It includes a number of innovative and useful features:
A curved shape to match the shape of the sole of a cycling shoe
A chamfered front face to facilitate clipping, especially when the shims are stacked
A “pinning” system to connect multiple FORM shims or wedges together
Cleat position markers to aid in aligning cleats on the cleat
Made from impact resistant nylon to reduce damage from repeated clips
Leg length shims are used to increase the effective leg length on a shorter leg in cases where a rider suffers from a leg length discrepancy. Signs of a discrepancy may include:
a) overextension on one side at the bottom of the pedal strokeb) pelvis tilted or leaned to one side of the saddle in order to maintain connection with the pedals through the bottom of the stroke
c) one leg feels understretched while the other feels fine
Assuming the rider's position is correct and their legs have been assessed as having a gap, the above issues could be addressed with the use of leg length shims. Shimming, with the right amount of elevation, can create a more equal leg extension, stabilize the pelvis, and lead to a smoother, more controlled pedal stroke on the shorter side.
